Women’s Health
Two Smith’s associates were celebrated for sharing their inspirational stories of endurance and bravery through their participation in Kroger’s Giving Hope a Hand breast cancer awareness campaign. Their stories and photos were featured on the web site and special “pink” packaging found only in the Kroger family of stores across the country.
In 2009, Smith’s continued its financial support to key organizations by contributing more than $203,000 to women’s health organizations and events. Smith’s associates teamed up for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Albuquerque, Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. They served breakfast and shared smiles with visitors who came to the Pretty in Pink Caf survivors’ tent.
This year’s contributions of $70,000 to several American Cancer Society chapters in Wyoming, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah helped provide hundreds of prostheses, wigs, turbans, and gas cards to women undergoing cancer treatments. Smith’s also sponsored the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk and had tremendous associate turn out for the event.
