K-12 Education
Smith’s Earn & Learn program allows customers in Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho to support their schools by shopping with us. Shoppers link their Fresh Values reward card to their favorite K-12 school, then each time they shop a portion of the $1 million Smith’s contributes each year is captured for their school. Smith’s Earn & Learn checks have answered schools’ needs since 2000, and our contributions since the program began through 2009 total $12.4 million.
In Nevada and northern Arizona, Smith’s answers requests for school-wide support with food donations and by offering gift certificates for fundraising that nets the school 5% of what they sell.
Education takes the form of exploration and play, too. Smith’s sponsors the grocery store exhibit in the Las Vegas Lied Discovery Children’s Museum and the retail store in Junior Achievement’s “JA City” in Salt Lake City, where third graders experience the economics of operating their own businesses and where eighth graders experience the economics of running family finances.
