In 2008, the Smith’s Food & Drug Stores charitable giving program – known as Neighbor to Neighbor - touched more than 1,400 organizations through cash and in-kind contributions totaling $5.8 million. These contributions average $43,000 per store and include the combined support of Smith’s and parent company The Kroger Co, alliances with suppliers, and generous assistance from associates and customers.
Smith’s focuses philanthropic support in these key areas:
Hunger Relief, K-12 Education, Women’s Health and Sustainability Efforts.
Many of Smith’s 13,000 associates help grass roots organizations by participating in races and walks, serving at food pantries, mentoring youth, building houses or by participating in a host of other opportunities that personally inspire them. Smith’s associates also participate generously in the annual Associate Giving Campaign.
